As-Salamu Aleikum dear parents,

Science: Continueing with Simple Machines Unit

Language Arts: Students are practicing writing short narratives and including all aspects of story. They learned about the short "o" and "u" in their spelling workbooks. They are learning the proper form of capitalization in titles. Grammar: Adjectives, what they are and how to use them in description of setting, characters, plot etc.

Math: Students started a new unit in math this week on 3-D Geometric shapes.

Gym: Students have been improving their running endurance in gym warm ups. They have been playing dodge ball lately and have been enjoying the fast paced game.

Art: "The Earth and I" Students created and cut out a globe and created an art peice with it and incorporated themself into the picture. The title "Why We Should Protect the Earth" was used and students wrote about why we should protect the earth.

Social Studies: Students learned that Canada is divided into provinces. They coloured a map of the provinces, did a activity as well as learning some interesting facts about each of the provinces and territories.

Islamic Studies: Students created posters on various manners in Islam and examples of showing these manners, such as respect, kindness, honest, etc. They then presented their respective manner to the rest of the class.

Computers: Insha'Allah I will be demonstrating and letting the students explore in microsoft word this week in the computer lab.

New Math Unit: 3-D Geometry

As-Salamu Aleikum dear parents,

we have started a new unit in Math, 3-D Geometry.

Please take the time to read the introduction on page 134 and help your child with the home connections when they are highlighted.

Students did page 136 yesterday and almost all finished in class. Today we will be doing pages 137 and 138 and I will send home all the Math books for the home connection as well as if any student did not finish.

السلام عليكم :

* حصة المكتبة العربية ( القصص ) ان شاء الله ستكون كل خميس ، فالطالب الذي يرغب في تبديل قصته يستطيع ذلك كل خميس .. فالرجاء أن تبقى القصة معه في البيت ، و احضارها فقط الخميس لتبديلها، والحد الاقصى لبقاء القصة مع الطالب اسبوعين من تاريخ الاستعارة .

*الاهداف المرجوة من استعارة القصص العربية الاتي :

- تنمية قدرة الطالب على التهجئة و القراءة       - تنمية حصيلته اللغوية بالمفردات و التراكيب اللغوية بطريقة محببه الى نفسه        - فهم المقروء ،و الاستفادة من القيم الايجابية التي يستنتجها من القصة .

  فلذلك قراءة الطالب و هو في هذه السن المبكرة للقصة مرة واحدة،  في مدة (مثلا 20 دقيقة ) لا تحقق الاهداف المرجوة ، و لكن لتحقيق الفائدة للطالب ، على ولي الامر أن يجلس معه عدة مرات لقراءة بعض منها أو حتى عدة جمل  أو مفردات منها ، ليحقق في كل مرة هدفا من الاهداف المذكورة .

                                  و لكم جزيل الشكر على حسن تعاونكم معنا

Bake Sale and School T-Shirts Feb. 22

The Parents Support Team (PST) cordially invites you to the Bake Sale Fundraiser that will be running during the Student Led conference on Friday, February 22nd from 4:30pm-6:30pm at the Abraar School gym. Please make this event a success by donating an appetizer, dessert, or a drink.

Weekly Preview

This week we focused on reflection and self-evaluation. Students are choosing and preparing work for the student led conferences. They are practicing together and rehearsing for the evening.
They are thinking about their goals and achievements.

They also got a chance to visit the Science Fair on Wednesday and see all the projects done by the grade 4-8 students.

In Art we did some beautiful sunset silhouettes. You can see them on display the night of the student led conferences.

Friday Early Release 1:30 and SLC Night!

As-Salamu Aleikum Dear Parents and Students,

there will be early release on this Friday, February 22nd at 1:30pm. Please arrive on time to pick up your child at the gym.

Student Led Conferences will be taking place from 4:30-6:30. If you have not already booked a time slot, please do as this is important to your child's education. They have been working on their portfolios for the past two weeks and would love to show you their hard work.

A Message from Teacher Salam

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

السادة أولياء الامور الكرام

                     السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته ....

إيمانا منا بأهمية القراءة الحرة في تنمية اللغة العربية و مهاراتها , و رغبة في مساعدة الطالب / ة على إثراء مفرداته اللغوية , و زيادة مدى إدراكه و فهمه للغته الام , وتمنية استعداده و اقباله على القراءة , اهتدينا لعمل ( نظام المكتبة العربية ) حيث يقوم الطالب باستعارة قصة من معلمته كل أسبوعين مع جدول متابعة, وعليه إعادتهما في نهاية الاسبوعين .............      فالرجاء :

*المحافظة على القصة و عدم اتلافها .

*تسليم القصة ، و جدول المتابعة  , داخل الكيس المخصص لهما في الوقت المحدد .   ( أسبوعان من تاريخ الاستلام ) .

*حث الطالب/ة على القراءة و تشجيعه عليها , و ذلك بأن تجلس معه على الاقل خمس مرات في الاسبوع لقراءة القصة من خمس إلى عشرة دقائق , بأن تقرأ له صفحة ثم تطلب منه قراءة و تهجئة بعض كلمات منها , أو قراءة جملة .... و هكذا .

*تفسير الكلمات الصعبة له , و التأكد من فهمه لما يسمع أو يقرأ , و ذلك بطرح أسئلة عليه خلال القراءة  ,  أوالطلب منه اعادة المواقف الرئيسية التي مرت به , و ماذا يتوقع بعد ذلك ... و هكذا .

*عدم التدقيق على الاخطاء البسيطة التي لا تؤثر على المعنى .

*التذكرة خلال القراءة بالكلمات التي تتكرر فيسهل على الطالب /ة قراءتها مرة أخرى .

* تقطيع الكلمات إلى مقاطع فيسهل قراءتها .        مثال : 

  - يلفظ كل حرف في الكلمة لوحده مشكلا ( سبح : س ب ح    – قفل :  ق ف ل ) .

- الحرف الساكن يلفظ كمقطع مع الحرف السابق له ( خبز -  خب . ز ) (مبخرة - مب . خ . ر . ة)

- كذلك حرف المد يلفظ كمقطع مع الحرف السابق له ( حصان – ح . صا . ن ) ( إبريق - إب .ري . ق ) ( طيور – ط . يو . ر ) .......  و قد تم تدريب الطالب /ة على ذلك خلال القراءة الحرة الجماعية في الفصل .

*اعادة قراءة القصة عدة مرات ، وعدم الاكتفاء بقراءتها مرة واحدة ، و ذلك للاستفادة.

*تسجيل ما يقرأ الطالب , و مدة القراءة التي استغرقها في كل مرة , على جدول متابعة القراءة الحرة , حتى يتسنى لنا تشجيعه و مكافأته عليها .                و جزاكم الله على حسن تعاونكم الدائم
