Arabic Class (Tr. Salam and Tr. Hoda)

Last Week's Updates and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a great week alhamdulilah!

Spelling: On Monday, students wrote their spelling quiz on lesson 17 (words ending with LE) and then we completed lesson 18 where we reviewed spelling rules from lessons 13-17.

Reading/Writing: Sr. Hamida read us a wonderful story called "The Day the Crayons Quit". We discussed how each crayon felt and why they quit. Students made connections, and took turns to say how each crayon reminded them of how they felt at times.


The following day each student wrote a letter to a crayon convincing it to not leave, and explaining how special it it. 



On Friday Al-Hussein's sister read us "The day the Crayons Came Home". We had a good laugh

On Wednesday, Sr. Madlein came and she read an interesting book called "Silent Music" a story of Baghdad. After the read aloud, students answered comprehension questions about the book.




Media Literacy:On Friday, we discussed what media is, and how it could be very useful but that there are also disadvantages to it.They learned about different types of media and completed a booklet about media literacy where they wrote the purpose behind each media.

 MEASUREMENT FUN (Math):

Last week we learned about perimeter and how to measure the perimeter of different shapes (2D and 3D) through lots of different fun, hands-on activities. Students also did a penny flick activity in the hallway and in class where they had to flick a penny to measure how far it can go. They had a lot of fun, Alhamdulliah! 

We also had fun playing measurement games!





Math Clinic: We went to the gym for the math clinic, and students worked with Tr. Rania's class to answer questions about bar graphs. We had a wonderful time alhamdulilah!





Health: Students had a pop quiz about the different food groups,a balanced diet and mixed dishes.

Science:  We watched a video about metamorphosis, and we discussed what it is." Students took their science folders home to study for the unit test. 

Art: Students made "Perimeter Pets" where they drew a pet on a grid and found the perimeter of it. They did a great job masha'Allah!


Reminders:
  • Spelling quiz on lessons 13-17 is on Monday.
  • Students took home their spelling workbooks home on Monday to practice for their quiz.
  • Find 4 interesting health facts about your favourite fruit/vegetable (due on Monday).
  • Please sign and return your child's math, Islamic Studies and health quizzes.
  • Homework pack is due on Wednesday. 
  • Students have a Science test on Thursday.Students are to practice by completing the PRACTICE TEST in their Science folders (Answers to the Practice TEST will be emailed isA)

French Test

Today's Updates and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a fabulous day today alhamdulilah!

Computer lab: Today students practiced what we learned last computer class. They changed the font, size and color on a word document. We also learned to COPY and PASTE.

Reading/Writing: Students sat on the carpet and I read an informative book called "White Sharks" since we are learning about fish. We learned interesting facts about white sharks. Then, each student wrote an informative piece about white sharks.

Math: Today we learned how to measure using standard units. Each student measured two objects in centimeters, and we completed page 45 in our math books where we learned about CENTIMETERS, METERS and PERIMETER. We copied the definitions (cm, m and p) in our math journals and each student found the perimeter (distance around) of his/her desk.

Bubble Gum Fun: We had bubble gum and learned to make bubbles! We will be writing about "How to Make a Bubble with Bubble Gum" next week isA :)

  • Students took home a worksheet that Sr. Madlien assigned about ANIMAL BUNCHES. Have fun researching the names of different animal bunches with your child :)

Today's Updates and Reminder

Assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a wonderful day alhamdulilah!

Reading: Sr. Madlien joined us and read a great book called "A Tower of Giraffes" about animal bunches. Students completed a fun word puzzle about animal bunches, and we got to learn some great new vocabulary about animal bunches.

Math: Students finished measuring each other using string, each student measured his/her footprint using snap cubes and they recorded their answers.

We watched the first half of a video called "How Big is a Foot?" where a king wanted to give his queen a bed as a gift. Students worked in groups to make beds for the queen that were 6 feet long and 3 feet wide (measurements from the story) only to find that the beds were different sizes since our feet are different sizes. We finished watching the video and learned that using STANDARD UNITS would be so much easier!






Islamic Studies: Students answered questions about "Duaa" in their "I Love Islam workbooks, each student wrote a prayer and shared it with the class.

Gym: We went with the 2Bs to the gym for more Jungle Sport fun, and we had a fabulous time alhamdulilah!
