Qur'an Class Fun!

Students did an activity in Qura'n class where Tr. Ibtissam put questions in eggs related to the surah they are memorizing, and they took turns to answer after picking an egg!

Class Updates and Important Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a fabulous week alhamdulilah!

Reading: We talked about what discrimination is and we read "Desmond and the Very Mean Word" again. We talked about how forgiving others makes us feel happy and free.

Writing/Reading: We learned about AUTHOR"S PURPOSE (PIE: An author writes to persuade, inform or entertain). We looked at different books and magazines and decided as a class what the author's purpose was. Students worked in pairs to cut and past sentences under the correct purpose (Persuade, Inform or Entertain).

Students maintained stamina during WORK ON WRITING, and their task was to write to persuade the reader to eat more every day food and maintain a balanced diet.



Math: Students wrote their math test on bar graphs and pictographs.

We started a new unit in math (ADDITION and SUBTRACTION)...

Students wrote the definitions of Sum and Fact Family in their journals, and they showed a fact family. They also completed a page in their math book where they drew a pet store and wrote addition and subtraction stories about the pets!

Science: Adam, Talla, Salam, Ibrahim, Naeema, Kamilah, Raya, Mohammed and Sana A presented their projects. Masha'Allah they all did a great job!







We played a game to compare amphibians to reptiles where students took turns to write in a Venn diagram. Then, they each worked independently to complete the Venn Diagram in their science folders comparing amphibians to reptiles.

Computer Lab: We went to the computer lab on Thursday. Each student read a book on razkids, and answered questions about the book. Then we play educational games!

Gym: We went to the gym and played "People to People" and Freeze Tag.

Islamic Studies: We learned about prayer and how it is the key to Jannah. We read the 2 lessons in our "I Love Islam" text book about prayer.

Some Fun Time: We had a great time yesterday building a tower using connecting straws and we also had some playdough fun!






Homework:
Have a great time enjoying the beautiful weather, going for walks, visiting the library,  and spending quality time with your children :)

Reminders:
  • Students are encouraged to make a reading chain with all the books they read during the winter break. (Instructions were sent home yesterday)
  • Students took home their DRA results yesterday.
  • If you did not return the book your child borrowed for the project, please make sure you take it back to the public library.

Class Updates, Qura'n Homework and Reminders


Assalamu Alaikum,

Yesterday and today were just great alhamdulilah!

Spelling: Students wrote their spelling quiz on "r and l blends" and the bonus was to listen to the definition of one of our vocabulary words and write it down.

We completed lesson 14 in our spelling books where we learned blends with "S".

Math: We revised pictographs and bar graphs. Students completed pages 27 and 28 in their math books, and they came up with survey questions to show the results in a pictograph or a bar graph.

We estimated our estimation jar and shared the delicious chocolates!

Science: Sana M, Aleen, Sara A, Mishary, Isa, Nour, Ameer,Aymen, Fae and Mariam did a great job presenting their projects. We presented some of our projects in library class so Tr. Nancy gave us some great feedback! We got to learn interesting facts about puffins, screech owls, snowy owls, elf owls, humming birds, cardinal birds, duckspenguins, beetles and stick insects

Library: Students borrowed books from the school library. 
Gym: Yesterday we had a superb time playing "Catch me if you can!" and "Sharks and Guards" with the parachute!

Today we went to the gym and watched the grade 5s preform the story of Prophet Musa (SAW) on stage! Masha'Allah the grade 5s did a wonderful job!

Islamic Studies: We read "Zaid Learns to Make Wudu" in our I.S book, students worked in pairs to show each other how to make wudu and the importance of conserving water.

We made Wudu booklets and Wudu Pyramids or Cakes!



Qura'n Homework: Practice Surah Al-Aala Ayah 7-11.

Friday's Updates, Homework and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a great day today alhamdulilah!

Writing: Students did a writing activity called " I am one of a kind..." where they wrote sentences using adjectives to describe themselves. Students were reminded to use at least one compound sentence in their writing. They did a wonderful job, MashaAllah!



Math: We completed page 27 in our math books where we conducted a survey as a class, and students made a tally chart and a pictograph. Then, they answered questions about their pictograph.

Science: Al-Hussein and Saara S. presented their projects today. We learned some really interesting facts about grasshoppers and  the Galapagos hawk! They both did a fabulous job masha'Allah!

Homework: 
  • Math pack is due on Wednesday.
Reminders:
  • Students have a spelling quiz on lesson 13 on Monday. The list words are: grass, trunk, truck, flew, flat, class, plate, from, glove, friend.
  • Students should also learn to spell sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth.
  • Students have a math test on BAR GRAPHS and PICTOGRAPHS on Wednesday (12/16/2015).
  • Work on the animal project (Project requirements and due dates were emailed on Nov 30th)
  • Please sign your child's agenda.

Updates and Important Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum

I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather.

Here are some updates:

Reading: On Wednesday Sana M. read us a funny book about monsters called " Monsters Love Underpants". Masha'Allah she did a great job reading the book!

Yesterday Sr. Madlien read the class a great book that teaches us to be more humble and accept the advice of others! The book is called" King Hugo's Huge Ego". Students also completed a worksheet where they circled the meanings of vocabulary words.

Spelling: We completed lesson 13 in our spelling books where students learned words with "L and R" blends.

Vocabulary: Students played " CATEGORIES" where they sorted words in the write categories (nouns, verbs or adjectives), and the first team to finish won!



Grammar/ Writing: Yesterday we reviewed compound sentences, and  then students completed a worksheet where they sorted simple and compound sentences independently.



Today students maintained stamina during WORK ON WRITING, and their task was to write 5 compound sentences.

Math: Students learned about PICTOGRAPHS. They wrote down the purpose of pictographs in their journals, and they each made their own pictograph.

Students worked independently to complete a worksheet on pictographs.

Today we worked in groups to show the different weather we had in April. Each group took a calendar that shows the different weather in April, they worked together to make a tally chart and a pictograph. Then, they answered questions about their pictograph.


Science: Today students worked independently to write 5 special things they learned about amphibians in their science folders. 

Masha'allah Fatima and Ahmed did a great job presenting their projects today. We learned lovely facts about beetles and penguins!


Reminders:
  • Students have a spelling quiz on lesson 13 on Monday. The list words are: grass, trunk, truck, flew, flat, class, plate, from, glove, friend
  • Students should also learn to spell sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth.
