This Week's Updates, Homework and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a great week this week alhamdulilah!

Reading: Masha'Allah we have been doing a fantastic job maintaining stamina during read to self! Today we had 35 minutes of stamina!


Writing: We learned the difference between simple sentences and compound sentences. Students learned that a simple sentence has one complete thought while compound sentences have more than one thought. They each chose a topic to write about, and their task was to write at least 6 simple sentences.

Yesterday for TWINS day, Fae came up with an interesting activity!Twins worked together to make twin crafts and they wrote about it :) Thank you, Fae :)


Math: Students worked independently to solve word problems about growing patterns in their math journals.

They completed an exit slip about patterns where they wrote some of the things they learned about repeating and growing patterns.

Today we started a new unit in math Number Sense and Numeration. We made a mind map as a class about numbers where students took turns to say how we
use numbers in real life and where they are found. After that students worked in groups to write everything they know about numbers on chart paper (addition, subtraction, multiplication, money, time...etc) We also completed pages 12 and 13 in our math books where each student made his own mind map about numbers, completed numbers on number lines, and circled numbers to show a growing pattern.

Science: We watched a video about the characteristics of insects, we read about insects, and students completed a worksheet where they completed sentences using a word bank.

Today we learned about an insect's body parts, students labeled an insect and wrote examples of some insects they know. Then we labeled an insect as a class.

Social Studies: This week we learned the 5 oceans (Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, Indian, Southern), and we watched a video where we got to learn some interesting facts about each ocean. Students also completed a worksheet where they labeled the oceans and coloured the map.

Islamic Studies: We learned the story of the sons of Prophet Adam (SAW), and we learned that there is good jealousy and bad jealousy. Students gave examples of good jealousy, and bad jealousy. We also read a book about Qabil and Habel called "The Two Brothers".

Classdojo Party: We had a great time celebrating our classdojo points today!

Reminders: 
  • Spelling quiz on the list words in lesson 7 (long vowel a). The list words are: save, lake, face, same, gate, rake, tape, sail, paint, afraid
  • Students took home their assessment folders. Please sign the assessments and send the folder with your child on Monday.
  • Please read the parent letter for the new unit on "Exploring Numbers".
  • Homework pack is due on Wednesday.

Blog Update and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a great day alhamdulilah!

Reading: Students maintained stamina for 20 minutes while reading to self. I worked with students on the DRA.

Spelling: We watched a video about the magic e and how it makes short vowels long. Students completed lesson 7 in their spelling books where they answered questions about words with the long vowel sound a.

Then students took out their whiteboards, and wrote as many words as they could with the long vowel sound a.



Math: Today we learned that patterns can be used in real life everyday. We answered two growing pattern word problems as a class where we found out how much money we'd need to buy 5 books if each book cost $4. After that students worked in groups to solve growing pattern word problems on chart paper using a T Chart.

Gym: For gym class today, we went outside with the 2Bs and had a fabulous time playing in the leaves. Students were divided into two groups, and their task was to make a huge piles of leaves! We had so much fun alhamdulilah!

















Carpet Time: Some students told the class some of the things they really appreciate about their friends. Then we sang our friendship song (YOU CAN COUNT ON ME) that we will be singing on Nov 10th in assembly isA.


Arabic Class: In Arabic class Tr. Hoda showed the class a mind map about our body.

  • Students have a spelling quiz on Monday on the list words in lesson 7 (long vowel a)
  • Homework pack is due tomorrow.
  • This Thursday is TWIN DAY!
  • Trip forms are due on Nov 2nd.

Today's Classwork, Qura'n Homework and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a wonderful day alhamdulilah!

Reading: After students took turns to talk about how they enjoyed their weekend, they maintained stamina for 31 minutes while reading to self masha'Allah, and I worked with some students on the DRA.

Math: Students completed page 11 in their math books where they used 2 shapes and 2 colours to make a pattern, and they answered questions about their patterns. They also made a growing pattern in a T Chart or 3 Column Table on their whiteboards, and they wrote about how they made their pattern (WIN: I used words, illustrations and numbers or I used words and numbers).

Social Studies: Students worked in pairs to make a mind map about Earth. Masha'Allah they all did a wonderful job! We also watched a video about the 7 continents explaining where they are located on Earth, and some facts about each continent. Then students started working on a worksheet about the 7 continents.

Gym: We went to the gym and played Follow the Leader and basketball.

Qura'n Homework: Practice Surah Al-Ghashiyah Ayah 6-10.

  • Sign your child's spelling quiz.
  • Trip forms are due on November 2nd.
  • Thursday is Twin day!

Today's Classwork, Homework and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a GREAT day today alhamdulilah!

Today Adman told the class the story of Ashurah and how Allah (SWT) saved Musa and his people.

Reading: Students maintained stamina for 23 minutes while reading to self and completing their noun hunt. I worked with some students on the DRA.

Science: Two groups presented their mind maps about birds in front of the class. Then students worked independently to write 5 special things about birds.

Math: We solved a growing pattern word problem as a class in a T Chat, and we wrote what we used to solve the problem (WIN: words, illustration, numbers). After that students worked independently to complete a worksheet on growing patterns where they completed growing patterns and came up with their own growing patters in T Charts.

Islamic Studies: We finished reading the story of Prophet Adam and we learned the names of Allah (SWT), Al- Ghafar and Al- Ghafoor (The All Forgiving).

Art: Today students used egg shells to make a lovely frame with Allah's name, Al- Awal. Masha'Allah they all did a wonderful job.  Tr. Hina prepared the egg shells for us :)

Clean up Time: The 2As worked together to sort, clean and organize our class. They did a fabulous job working together masha'Allah!

Homework:
  • Homework pack is due on Wednesday.
  • Monday's spelling quiz will be a revision on lessons 1 to 5. Revise the list words with your child in a fun and engaging way by playing a game where you select three words from each lesson and your child has for example 20 seconds to write them and collect points :)
  • Encourage your child to explore Razkids.

Today's Classwork and Homework

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a wonderful day today!

We started our day by agreeing on one goal (end in mind) that we would like to achieve by the end of the day, and we agreed to each cheer someone up and put a smile on a face :)

Reading: Today while students were reading they did a noun hunt where each student looked for common and proper nouns in his/her book. Students maintained stamina for 25 minutes masha'Allah!
While students were reading, I worked with some students on the DRA.

Gym: We went to the gym and played Follow the Leader and FAST!

Math: Today we learned to use WIN (words, illustrations and numbers) when solving math problems. We solved a growing pattern word problem as a class using a 3 column table, and we discussed what we used to solve the problem (e.g. I used words, illustrations and numbers.)

Students solved growing pattern word problems in their math journals, and wrote what they used to solve them (WIN).

Science: Students worked in groups, and each group made a mind map about birds where they write birds in the center of their map and it branches out to characteristics and types of birds. 3 groups presented their mind maps in front of the class.

Social Studies: Today we watched a video about the earth (7 continents and oceans).

 IsA by the end of our first unit in social studies, students should be able to:
  • Identify and locate continents, significant bodies of water, the equator, poles, and hemispheres on maps or globes.
  •  understand  and use cardinal directions 
  • develop their ability to use appropriate elements of maps(e.g., a title, symbols in a legend,direction, scale[non-standard],and colour) to help extract information and/or when constructing maps for specific purpose. 
Homework:

Homework pack is due on Wednesday.

Yesterday's Classwork

Grammar: Students had a noun pop quiz on common and proper nouns.

Science: We learned that a Venn diagram is used to compare and contrast two things. We used a Venn diagram to compare a penguin to another bird.

Students also labeled a bird.

Math:  We went over the different strategies to make a growing pattern using a T chart, 3 column table and counters. Each student took 3 word problems on growing patterns, and they answered them in their math journals.

Islamic Studies: We learned more about how people celebrate Eid in different countries.

Today's Classwork and Homework

assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a great day alhamdulilah!

Reading: After talking about the elections and our new Prime Minister, students maintained stamina for 33 minutes today while reading to self. Way to go 2A! I worked with some students on the DRA (Development Reading Assessment) where students read to me and answered questions about what they read.

Spelling: We did lesson 6 (Review on lessons 1 to 5) in our spelling books.

Math: We went over the different strategies to solve a pattern word problem by using a T chart, 3 column table and counters. After that students solved a word problem on growing patterns in their math books using a T Chart, 3 column table, or counters.

Science: We discussed the characteristics of birds and how they are similar to and different from reptiles. Students started working on a worksheet about birds where they filled in the blanks using a word bank.

Homework:
  • Complete lesson 6 in the spelling book.
  • Practice Surah Al- Ghashiah Ayah 1 to 5.

Reminders:
  • Please sign your child's spelling quiz.
  • Homework pack is due tomorrow.
  • Students have a spelling quiz on Monday on lesson 6 (Review of list words in lessons 1 to 5)

Blog Update and Reminders

Today we had a great productive day alhamdulilah!

Reading: After we talked about how we spent our weekend, students took their book boxes and masha'Allah maintained stamina for 30 minutes! Alhamdulilah we reached our goal! While students were reading to self, I worked with some students on the DRA.

Spelling: Students wrote their spelling quiz on lesson 5, the bonus was to write 3 common nouns and three proper nouns.

Math: Today we learned how to organize information in a chart.We learned how to use a T Chart and a 3 Column Table to show growing patterns. Each student solved a word problem using a T chart and a 3 column table where they found the number of wheels needed to build 8 cars.

We played a game where two students at a time listened to a word problem on growing patterns carefully, and their task was to use counters to solve it as fast as they could. The first one to finish got a point.

Gym: We went to the gym and played Red Light.

Islamic Studies: Students made an accordion book on the story of Prophet Ibrahim and the stones. 

Reminders:
  • Tomorrow is the deadline to submit the hot lunch forms.
  • Please sign the Quran rubric paper & return it to school.

Friday's Classwork

Assalamu Aliakum,

We had a great day yesterday alhamdulilah!

Reading: Students maintained stamina for 14 minutes while reading to self, and  I worked with some students on the DRA (Development Reading Assessment). Our goal for Monday is to maintain stamina for 30 minutes isA. We can do it :)

We also listened to "MR. PEABODY"S APPLES", a story that teaches us that the truth is what matters- not how things appear- and that we must choose our words carefully to avoid hurting others. Then, we discussed the story as a class.

Guided Writing: Students sat on the carpet, and we worked together to write about COOPERATION. We answered the 5Ws + 1 and organized our thoughts to come up with a good writing piece. We underlined the new vocabulary. Then, students went back to their places and copied it in their journals.

Math: We made a growing pattern as a class in an I Chart on the number of wheels on bicycles:

Then, each student chose a vehicle and made a growing pattern on his/her whiteboard in an I Chart.

Islamic Studies: Students learned about niyyah (intension), and that everything we do should be with the intension (niyyah) to please Allah (SWT).

  • Homework pack is due on Wednesday.

Today's Classwork and Homework

Assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a FABULOUS day masha'Allah!

Reading: Today students sat on the carpet and Aleen read us "Mud Pies". We talked about the different pies we like and each student said what their favorite pie was. Masha'Allah Aleen did a great job reading the story! We all enjoyed it very much!

Math: Students had a pop quiz on PATTERNS. We revised growing patterns, and students took turns to extend growing patterns on the board. Then, they extended more growing patterns in their math journals.

Grammar: We completed a worksheet on proper and common nouns.

Gym: We went to the gym and played Red Light/ Green Light, Freeze Tag and Giant Soup!

Islamic Studies: Students sat on the carpet and I read "Eid Around the World" in our "I Love Islam" textbook. We learned that Muslims around the world celebrate Eid in different ways.  We learned how people celebrate Eid in Pakistan, Iran, Egypt and Trinidad. Some students took turns to tell the class how they celebrate Eid in their country.

Homework:

  • Home connection (Math):
    A growing pattern happens when something is added each time. Please encourage your child to create a growing pattern at home with pictures,objects, shapes, and numbers. Here is an example:

  • Encourage your child to explore Book Room on Razkids. IsA I will be giving students assignments on Razkids regularly once I am done with the DRA (Development Reading Assessment)

Wednesday's Classwork

Assalamu Alaikum,

Yesterday we had a wonderful day alhamdulilah!

Reading: Students maintained stamina for 18 minutes while reading to self. Some students read to me, and answered questions about what they read. (DRA)

Spelling: Students wrote their spelling quiz (lesson 4), and the bonus was to write one common noun and one proper noun.

Grammar: Yesterday students had a pop quiz on nouns.

Math: Students worked in groups to define GROWING PATTERNS, they showed 2 growing patters, and each group got 6 of the same animal (sheep, duck, cow..etc) and their task was to create a growing pattern by counting the legs. Then, each group presented their work in front of the class.

Today's Classwork and Homework

Today we had a great day alhamdulilah!

Reading: Students worked on maintaining stamina while reading to self. Masha'Allah today we maintained stamina for 25 minutes! Keep up the great work 2A! While students were reading, some students took turns to read to me and answer questions about what they read (DRA)

Spelling: We completed lesson 5 in our spelling books where we learned words with the short vowel "e".
We watched a video about short vowels, and we did 2 online quizzes as a class on short vowel sounds.

Science: We watched a video about the different animal categories (mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects) and we did 2 online quizzes as a class.

Math: Today students wrote the meanings of PATTERN CORE and ATTRIBUTE in their math journals and they drew a pattern where they repeated the core 5 times.

We learned about growing patterns, students answered questions on growing patterns in their math books, they wrote the meaning of GROWING PATTERN in their math journals and showed 2 growing patterns.

Homework:
  • Complete lesson 5 in your spelling books.
  • Spelling quiz on lesson 4 will be tomorrow isA.
  • Homework pack is due tomorrow isA.

Thursday's Classwork, Homework and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a great day on Thursday alhamdulilah!

 Reading: After going over the I Chart for Read to Self, students took their book boxes and read quietly.

 Language: We learned about common and proper nouns. Students completed a worksheet on common and proper nouns.

Science: We went over some of the characteristics of mammals. Students worked independently to write 5 special things they know about mammals.

 Gym/Health: Students took turns to peel and cut apples we collected from the Mountain Orchard.Then our wonderful parent volunteers from 2A and 2B made delicious apple pies. The apple pie was just DELICIOUS!

I would like to thank our volunteers for all the time they spent preparing the dough, making the apple pies with our students and making Thursday such a wonderful day for all of us! Jazakum Allahu Khairan! We couldn't have done it without you!

Reminders:
  • Spelling test on "lesson 4" will be on Tuesday in shaa Allah. The list words are: gum, pot, dust, frog, must, sock, pup, shot, soft, tug

الاهالي الكرام ....
        السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته .. نرحب بكم جميعا و بتلاميذنا الاعزاء , و كل عام و أنتم بخير ، يسعدني أن أقوم بمهمة تدريس مادة اللغة العربية للصف الثاني الابتدائي لهذا العام ، جعله الله عز و جل عاما دراسيا مثمرا خيرا .
      منهجنا الدراسي لهذا العام منهج شيق مفيد ، حيث تمثل مجالاته حياة الطفل وتسهم في تنمية قدرات الطفل الذهنية و الفكرية ، و تثري خبراته  في جميع فروع اللغة ( فهم و استيعاب – قراءة – كتابة – و تعبير)، وذلك من خلال  اتباع استراتيجيات متنوعه و محببة للطفل ( الانشودة ، المسابقة ، اللعبة التعليمية الهادفة ، الاعمال الفنية ، مشاركة التلميذ و فعاليته  في العملية التعليمية  ............ ) .
*الواجب المنزلي: غالبا ما يكون حل الطالب لتدريبات حلت بشكل أنشطة جماعية أو مجموعات  داخل الفصل ، وعليه حلها بمفرده ، بخط جميل مرتب في البيت ، أو التدريب على القراءة الصحيحة القائمة على التهجئة و التقطيع الصحيح للمفردات، بصوت مرتفع عدة مرات ، و الرجاء اعطاء واجب القراءة ، أهمية خاصة وعدم الاستهانه به، لما له من تأثير كبير في رفع مستوى الطالب للافضل.
    * الكتاب المقرر سيبقى في المدرسة ، وسيرسل للبيت فقط في حالة وجود واجب منزلي، والرجاء
التأكد من وجود الكتاب المقرر يوميا في حقيبة الطالب،  لحاجتنا  اليومية اليه في المدرسة .

Today's Classwork and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a wonderful day alhamdululilah!

Reading: After going over the I Chart for Read to Self, students took their book boxes and read quietly while some students read to me.

Carpet Time/ Writing: We sat on the carpet and talked about our field trip yesterday to the Mountain Orchard. Students talked about their favorite part of the trip and the different activities we got to do yesterday. We also talked about how we felt and some things we learned about apples.

Then, we went over the 5Ws + 1 and students came up with questions about the trip. They went back to their places and wrote about yesterday's field trip in their journals.

Math: Students finished page 7 in their math books where they described a pattern, they drew patterns on their whiteboards and defined PATTERN, CORE and ATTRIBUTE in their own words in their math journals.

Science: Students sat on the carpet and we went over how animals are categorized into groups. We learned more about mammals, and students worked in groups to write 5 special things about mammals on chart paper.

Character Assembly: We went to the gym and the grade 4s performed beautifully on stage to show us what cooperation is.

Reminders: 

  • Today students took home the hot lunch forms. 
  • They also took School Run Pledge sheets and name tags for tomorrow's Terry Fox run.
  • Students took the Scholastic flyers today. Please only send cheques and not cash.
  • Tomorrow we will be baking apple pie in shaa' Allah, so if your child has an apron, please send it with him/her to school.
  • Alhamdulilah the school provided us with the blue and green notebooks for spelling/writing, so if you were not able to find the notebooks, do not worry about purchasing them.

Monday's Classwork and List Words

Assalamu Alaikum,

Yesterday we had a wonderful day alhamdulilah!

Carpet Time: Students took turns describing how they felt and how they spent their weekend.

Spelling:Students wrote their spelling quiz on lesson 3. We completed lesson 4 in our spelling books where we learned new list words with the short vowels u and o.

Math: Students finished page 6 about describing  patterns in their workbooks.

Library: We went to the library, and Tr. Nancy talked to the class about the first step in doing a project which is the "PLANNING" stage. We discussed where we could find information and the questions we need to ask ourselves when looking for information using the 5Ws +1. 

Reading: Students took their book boxes and read quietly. Masha'allah I am so proud of the 2As! They are doing a great job maintaining stamina! Way to go 2A!

Listening: We listened to Saara's audio "Betty Bunny Didn't Do it" and we talked about the importance of honesty.

We went to the park at the end of the day and had a great time playing with the 2Bs!

Homework:

  • Complete lesson 4 in your spelling book if you did not finish in class.
  • Quran:  Practice Surah Al-Bayyinah Ayah 6-8.
